    • I’m Chris, 75, and an up-and-coming artist living in High Park.
    1. I ride a custom-painted e-scooter and like kids and dogs—at a distance.

One could argue that my art career began when I painted my self-designed and custom-built 30-foot catamaran. My artist’s vision, as I applied and sanded coat after coat of paint, was to get as close to a perfectly smooth gloss finish as possible—to be the shiniest, best-finished boat at the club. That was in the mid-nineties.

Life, work, sailing, and creating things took up the intervening years. Then, in 2019, when I realized downsizing to an apartment was in the cards, I truly began my journey into art. One of my first pieces was a 5’ x 5’ copy of Mel Bochner’s Blah Blah Blah, which I had seen in a gallery window in Montreal the previous year and subsequently painted on our family room wall. I actually kept the letters and recently recreated the piece in my studio. That spark led to the creation of over a hundred paintings, collages, multimedia pieces, and now sculptures, including mobiles and stabiles.

At the bidding of friends and neighbors, I held my first exhibition in 2025. This was followed by a joint exhibition with an established artist, Wendy Weaver, who was looking to downsize her own massive body of work. Thus, the idea was born to sell our art at reduced prices and donate a portion of the proceeds to a local charity. Since then, we have shared another exhibition—this one by invitation at my home and studio—which raised more than $2,500 for the Bloor West Food Bank.

"Eclectic" well describes my work, and I make no apologies for that. I create exactly what I feel like creating. Making art fulfills my creative needs, and being able to share it with others brings me immense joy.

When I’m not lost in my art, you will find me at home with my wife, Carol, reading, or walking through High Park and our other wonderful neighbourhoods.

I hope you enjoy the art in my portfolio. I hope you find at least one piece that speaks to you, lifts your mood, and elevates your day. If a piece speaks to you so strongly that you can see exactly where it belongs in your home, please contact me at christafaro.art@gmail.com.
